IMG_4318-croppedFor the fourth consecutive year, the International Tea Cuppers Club is pleased to host its signature Cup Warming at the World Tea Expo in Long Beach, CA. A tea-filled social event replete with tea tastings, presentations and fellowship, the Cup Warming is an opportunity to learn directly from – and interact with – tea producers and experts from around the globe. Specially selected teas are presented, prepared, tasted and discussed as fellow ITCC members, and tea lovers, tea makers and dealer learn from one another while sharing their passion for tea. The Cupping Event is open to all and there is no charge to attend. Serving as a “warm-up” to the excitement of the WTExpo, the event is being held on Wednesday, May 28th from 5:30-6:30 pm in room 102B of the convention center. All are welcome to attend, though RSVPs are appreciated. Please RSVP to itcc@teacuppers.com.IMG_4336

Teas presented this year are expected to be: two special teas from Hunan, China; a boutique artisan black tea from Bihar and an organic orthodox tea from Assam, India; a very special hand-made Temomi Shin Cha and a Fukamushi Sen Cha from Shizuoka, Japan; a high elevation Sri Lankan tea from the Dayagama estate; and a white tea from Hawaii.

At the Xiamen International Tea Fair last October, ITCC was honored to host its first Cup Warming outside of North America. It was attended by over 150 people and was presented by Director Dan Robertson and Vice-Director – China Daniel Hong. Featured speakers included: Rajiv Lochan of Lochan Tea, Ltd presenting Darjeeling tea; Mr. D. Hegde of United Nilgiri Tea Estates Co. presenting a Chamraj Nilgiri Frost; Mr. Ip Wingchi of Lockcha in Hong Kong presenting two award winning teas (Black Beauty, a black tea from Taiwan and Shui Mi Xiang Dan Cong oolong tea made by tea master Huang Shuwei of China); and Mrs. Priyanka Liyanege of the Tea Board of Sri Lanka presenting teas from two of the famous regions. A presentation on Japanese teas was made by Sensei Bisgaard of Marukyu Koyamaen Co. Ltd, Japan.

IMG_2765-lowAnother Cup Warming is already on the schedule for the Xiamen Tea Fair this year and is being held on October 12 from 2:20-3:50. A special Fujian Tea Tour is scheduled immediately following the Fair.

In addition to the Cup Warmings, the ITCC organizes and conducts its unique tea tasting events, called Cupping Events. These programs, which happen simultaneously around the world in the comfort of the Cupper’s own location, investigate specific types of teas and facilitate both a greater intellectual as well as sensory understanding of the finer aspects of teas. Members, who come from all walks of tea – from growers, brokers, tasters, dealers and tea lovers – can all learn from one another and contribute to the appreciation of tea. Past Cupping Events have explored Darjeeling 1st flush, Dragon Well Spring season, Assam 2nd flush, Tie Guan Yin and the unprecedented Production Defects event, which featured teas especially made for ITCC.

The next Cupping Event will focus on the intriguing Pu Er teas from Yunnan province, China and DSC03952Cuppers will taste, test, compare and evaluate 10 different Pu Er teas. Registration is open to members and anyone may become a member. Please visit www.teacuppers.com for more details on this exciting Cupping Event and on ITCC membership.
