Production Methods 2016

Registration for this Cupping Event is Now Closed

This Cupping Event focuses on the differences created from the two main production methods, Orthodox and CTC. The same leaves from the same bush from the same season can be turned into very different teas depending on how they are processed. Orthodox teas are treated more carefully during processing and leaf appearance is an important factor in judging quality. Complexity in aroma and taste are also key. By contrast CTC (cut, tear, curl) processing turns the leaves into small, uniform granules prized for their bold, deep colory liquors. In this Cupping Event we will have the exceptional opportunity to compare pairs of teas made from 5 different gardens, plucked during the same season but processed in both methods. Likewise, each pair of samples comes from a different region including Kenya, India, China and Sri Lanka. Cuppers will learn not only the difference that production makes but will also gain a horizontal understanding of teas from other parts of the tea world.
